MikeFish1 - dude.... check timelines. While I love his ROMs and used them all from the beginning, he's using some cyanogen stuff, htc's framework, littlejth's kernel (now without his permission), and more. take those away, and his ROM doesn't exist - you kinda gotta have those things..... sad that it all came to this... would be great if we all stopped acting like little kids!
im sorry to here that you got treated like shit, i personally think it's stupid that they demanded you to have open source...i think you have done an amazing job so far with the moment i have been using your ROM from almost the first release and i hope that you will keep on working on it. you have a good fan base and have had 100's of downloads so keep it up and be the first to get 2.2 on it :)

What does it all really matter about? While he may not be releaing the source code he is releasing good quality roms that are fast, stable and flashy. That HELPS the community. So what if he whines, complains or copies all of the source of another rom, as long as he gives credit where its due he should be in the good.
Everyone involved is wrong but this sounds like sdx is being like apple the way they are being regarding forcing open source. That is as bad if not worse than close soursing. His work is his work if you want to copy it than reverse engineer it, decide what you like, use it in your stuff and give him credit for concept.
Totally - I don't see any gnu or other agreements on your work. I also never knew that sdx had a forced open source rule. Why not require everyone to be devs or testers and if they don't have an account they can't post. Also sdx can sell the email lists. I think sdx should release the code for their site. I DEMAND it. Makes no sense right? they made it they should be able to eep it right? I am sure that the website uses something open sourced (apache, mysql, myphpadmin) so all of it should be open sourced according to your logic, right?
Well sucks you had to leave SDX, but more power to you man. No one should have to deal with dictatorship in any way. It's your work and you should get to choose how, what, and when things from it get released, that's why I don't release anything I make for my Moment on SDX.
I followed your ROM from day one, actually put it on my Moment at 2.8, did 3.0 the other day, and downloaded 3.2 before work today. I love what you've done with the Moment in the short time you've been working on it and can't wait to see what you continue to bring to the underrated Android.
It is worth noting that the Open Source policy was discussed in FEBRUARY in one of the hidden development boards, but was then moved out after we forgot to. So you can stop all of this bullshit that says we made the rule because of you.

@TotallyNot no offence, but me and the average everyday user won't/don't care. Even if it's not his work, he was the only one who put it all together making it much easier for anyone to get all at once. Not to mention what have others done with the cyanogen and HTC frameworks you speak of? That was something he got working that none of you did. Things that come from HTCs framework have been the most requested things on SDX since before 2.1
And in case you didn't notice you all have given everything for anybody to create a working ROM. Hell my Moment is a combination of damn near all of ya'lls work. But enough defending Dearmas, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Open source is open source, if it can't be open then keep it to yourself or put it somewhere else. And true you guys do work toward what we request and we love that, but when a disagreement between you devs hurts the community as a whole, how does that help any of the users that are so appreciative of your hard work on things that they request upon you?

No other developer even you Littlejth has incorporated the community like he did, ego trip was what you guys went through when his thread, his reputation and his views sky rocked and left ya eating dust.

But that is a risk everyone takes when you root, the more open you get the more people are responsible to know what they're putting on their devices.

And you can tell I don't have a backdoor because I'm open about my kernel, my users haven't found anything suspicious, and I actually have all of my source available online. Dearmas has none of this. I didn't say you did, I simply pointed out that it's pointless to say that he might have without acknowledging you could have as well. I use your kernel, it's the one I like the most and I know it's legit cause I do my research, I also use Dearmas's ROM, but that was only after I looked over what came inside it. True he didn't provide source, but someone who's hesitant and know's what they're doing can always look though the zip file that contains everything first, and if you don't know what you're doing you really shouldn't be rooting anyway.

even though the 100% opensource policy wasn't "officially" a rule until june 17th, it was always an understood policy by most people since the start of SDX. i think everyone can learn something from the way this whole situation was handled.
i hope that sometime soon, everyone can put away their differences and come back together.

The only thing he even did was find the camera fix, which was taking CL14's camera. I think it's pretty funny how people keep comparing this situation to you even though it is different.

ReplyDeleteIf you read all my comment I said ALL your egos, not just any one dev or just SDX, everybody, including Dearmus. He comes off like a prick quite a few times in the treads and in this blog post.
And he did give credit, please read the "MY APPRECIATIONS" section of the first post in the now archived SDX Google Ultimate Dream 3.2 tread.
And true you guys do work toward what we request and we love that, but when a disagreement between you devs hurts the community as a whole, how does that help any of the users that are so appreciative of your hard work on things that they request upon you?
And it has everything to do with it since most of his ROM is what anyone would put in they're own ROM.
MikeFish: I'm still confused as to how open you guys wanted him to be, All the files were there! Some devs just mad cuz they can't produce as he did, the pace he did, and the quality he did. First off, the NAME of the ROM was SDX Ultimate Dream. No other developer even you Littlejth has incorporated the community like he did, ego trip was what you guys went through when his thread, his reputation and his views sky rocked and left ya eating dust.
ReplyDeletelol, everyone at sdx wants him to provide the source, but that's the whole thing, there is no source. All he did was take yalls stuff and put it into an update .zip. And yes he tried to take credit for it until he was called out only then did he admit it was not his work and added credit to his post.

And Vegas, if you think you are winning then just lol. It IS laughable though. I mean, all of these people won't know who created any of this. They won't know if Dearmas put a backdoor or something in the ROM. They won't even know what changes are made! I guess you must want your phone taken over too? Fine by me, you deserve it.

ReplyDeleteAnd yes I am winning, you haven't acknowledged that he did give credit to you and others. And that's kinda a stab in the wind to say he might have put a backdoor in the ROM, who's to say you didn't in your kernel? See it doesn't feel good does it. But that is a risk everyone takes when you root, the more open you get the more people are responsible to know what they're putting on their devices.
I let anyone use it who complies with teh rules of SDX. He did not. He credit some of us, yes. And you can tell I don't have a backdoor because I'm open about my kernel, my users haven't found anything suspicious, and I actually have all of my source available online. Dearmas has none of this. Thanks for proving nothing troll.

ReplyDeleteI didn't say you did, I simply pointed out that it's pointless to say that he might have without acknowledging you could have as well. I use your kernel, it's the one I like the most and I know it's legit cause I do my research, I also use Dearmas's ROM, but that was only after I looked over what came inside it. True he didn't provide source, but someone who's hesitant and know's what they're doing can always look though the zip file that contains everything first, and if you don't know what you're doing you really shouldn't be rooting anyway.
And what is it with you and name calling? Idk who's deleting them but it gets irritating trying to respond when they disappear

ReplyDeleteeven though the 100% opensource policy wasn't "officially" a rule until june 17th, it was always an understood policy by most people since the start of SDX. i think everyone can learn something from the way this whole situation was handled.
i hope that sometime soon, everyone can put away their differences and come back together.
you know Dearmas, if you were any kind of adult, you would just put it behind you and continue doing what you do. Not bring it up and be spiteful. Hell if you want to be spiteful, do it behind the scenes, dont brag about it.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you feel this way and that this all came down to another split. The only fact you got really wrong, is that XDA only leads with active/more members is that it supports more 4 or 5 phones. I use your ROM but only because I myself know how to change them. Good Luck to you.

Zefie, this is not the same shit. He stole OUR shit, failed to credit us, failed to even tell us what was in his rom just "stuff to make it faster". The only thing he even did was find the camera fix, which was taking CL14's camera. I think it's pretty funny how people keep comparing this situation to you even though it is different.
